Picking the right running shoe

Forest Gump trainers

The most important item I will need to run the marathon is a good pair of running shoes.

Forrest Gump may have run the width of America on the strength of a battered old Nike Cortez but they just won’t cut it for me.

I managed to whittle my options down to two brands:

  1. Asics
  2. Nike

I’m well aware that Asics are the premier brand for running shoes but on a recent visit to their flagship store in London, I found out that I would need to spend between £150 and £230 for a decent pair.

This didn’t much turn me off but it made me question whether I’m at the level to need such an elaborate pair of trainers.

I hadn’t ruled them out though and currently I’m looking at the following options:

  1. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35
  2. Asics Gel Nimbus 20
  3. Asics Gel Kayana 24

The next steps will be to have a gait analysis so I can get an assessment of my running style so I can get the best shoe for me.

Stay tuned to see what shoe I opt for.
